Biography

Paula McFarlane is an associate in the New York Office of Brooks & Berne, PLLC. Ms. McFarlane began her legal career as a prosecutor, handling misdemeanor and felony cases at the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, NY, and later at the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office in Atlanta, GA. She prosecuted a wide range of offenses, including armed robberies, attempted murders, burglaries, DUIs and drug trafficking, managing cases from investigation through trial. Her experience in evidence analysis, motion practice, and courtroom advocacy now informs her approach to insurance defense. In addition to her prosecutorial work, Ms. McFarlane served as Senior Counsel at the New York City Law Department-Family Court Division, where she specialized in juvenile prosecution.

She also gained valuable insight into civil matters as an Assistant Law Clerk to the Honorable Ulysses B. Leverett in Queens Supreme Civil Court, assisting in cases involving negligence, insurance law, labor law, and foreclosure proceedings. This experience broadened her understanding of procedural and substantive law, further strengthening her ability to navigate complex legal disputes.

Ms. McFarlane earned her Juris Doctor from Touro Law Center, where she was a member of the Black Law Students Association and co-captained the Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition team. Recognized as one of the top 10 Law Students of 2015 by Legal Services NYC, she also interned with the Honorable Joseph P. Zayas in Queens Supreme Criminal Court. A dedicated advocate for justice reform, she has served as an Advisory Group Member for the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission and was honored by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for her contributions to the diversion program.
