Richard W. Berne, Esq is a founding member of the firm. For the past 43 years he has represented clients and tried cases in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, nursing home defense, medical malpractice, insurance defense litigation, insurance coverage disputes, general liability, workers’ compensation defense, criminal defense, governmental liability, and police misconduct. Mr. Berne handles cases in state and federal courts from inception through settlement, trial and appeal, and has significant experience conducting mediations and arbitrations. Mr. Berne’s extensive litigation experience includes handling corporate and business litigation matters involving contract disputes and related tort claims.
In addition to his extensive experience in the area of Personal injury litigation. Mr. Berne spent 18 years handling and trying major medical practice cases, including ones involving Infectious Disease, Brain-damaged infants, and allegations of surgical error. He was previously a partner and managed the insurance defense team of a regional law firm in New York where he continued to handle cases encompassing medical malpractice, nursing home defense, insurance coverage issues, appeals and administrative hearings. Mr. Berne prides himself on being an aggressive and pro-active defense attorney who seeks to resolve cases as quickly as possible but with no hesitation to take a case to trial when necessary.
