Valerie McGovern

Valerie E. McGovern is an associate in the Westchester Office of Brooks and Berne, PLLC.

Valerie received her Bachelor of Arts degree from The New York University at Albany where she double majored in Political Science and Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies. She graduated with honors, particularly magna cum laude.

She is a graduate of St. John’s University School of Law, where she was a Public Interest Fellow. During law school, Valerie focused on gaining a vast range of experience in the delivery of legal services and legal advocacy to traditionally underrepresented clients, groups, or interests. In her work with The St. Vincent de Paul Child Advocacy Clinic, Valerie served as a student-attorney legally assisting unaccompanied child migrants from Central America in their Special Immigrant Juvenile Status Cases.

After receiving 2020 Gunther Family Summer Public Interest Fellowship in recognition of Valerie’s dedication to legal advocacy, she worked as Public Interest Fellow for Queens Legal Aid Society’s Criminal Defense Unit.

Additionally, after graduating from law school Valerie gained experience as a law clerk where her work focused on litigation surrounding The New York Child Victims Act.
